Shapewear and undergarments have been around a long time since the turn of the century.
Remember Scarlett O’Hara being laced up into her corset in Gone with the Wind?
But our generation is lucky. With technology, fabric, stitching, and high-quality design, we can achieve that hourglass look without pain. No boning, no horse hair.
We’re not afraid to say that sometimes we need a little help. Shapewear is every woman’s best friend and our secret weapon for disguising any lumps and bumps.
Fortunately, you don’t have to wear something that’s going to completely change your figure. Instead, it is about enhancing your silhouette, with the added bonus of being able to smooth, lift and flatten in all the right places.
Today’s body shapers are comfortable and give us a natural-looking shape. They are not just for those who wear a plus size. Shapewear can smooth out the silhouette underneath clingy materials, which is helpful for women of all sizes. Check out our Shapewear at our store.
Shapewear Tips
Learn How to Put on Shapewear Correctly
The main reason women often avoid shapewear? They find it too difficult to put on!
Remember to always step into shapewear, even camisoles, and pull the garment up over your hips to avoid trapping head and arms in the shaper.
Bunch up the shaper like pantyhose and pull it on while gradually releasing the fabric. Do not put it on like a regular piece of clothing. Leave crotches hooked or snapped, as it can be difficult to get these fastened once the shaper is on. Go slowly and be patient. Wearing a shaper takes more effort than throwing on a pair of jeans and a T-shirt. But it’s worth it!
Know How Often You Will Wear The Garment
Different styles, designs, and control are offered for each type of shapewear. If you want tummy support for a special occasion under a slinky dress, you may be able to tolerate a much higher level of support for a few hours than if you were looking for an all-day shaper.
The least coverage possible is the key to comfort. If you just want to whittle your waist, you do not need a full-body shaper Conversely, if you have curves, just a waist cincher might yield disappointing results.
Decide How Much Control You Need
If two women are looking for a thigh shaper, one woman may simply want to disguise cellulite show-through and keep her inner thighs from rubbing together, while the other woman may wish to actually reduce the apparent size of her thighs. The first woman needs a light or moderate control garment. The second woman should focus on firm or extra firm support.
Pay Attention to Care Instructions
Laundering is hard on clothes and heat causes rubber, silicone, and spandex to break down. Hand washing and line drying help ensure that a body shaper retains its effectiveness and lasts for a long time.
Don’t Buy Shapewear That Is Too Small
Shapewear that is smaller does not provide more support. It just doesn’t fit and is uncomfortable. A body shaper that is too tight pinches, binds, cuts off circulation and creates unsightly bulges where the shapewear ends. Instead of going smaller, find shapewear with firmer support in the correct size.
Don’t Buy Shapewear That Is Too Large
It is a fallacy to think that shapewear that is a size larger is more comfortable. A body shaper that is too big moves around, wrinkles or bunches when it is worn. It also does not provide the correct level of support, so it just acts as an extra layer of clothing that serves no purpose.
